Artist Statement

Initially inspired by research into Outsider Art, my current body of work explores issues of motherhood in a less than conventional way, whilst also addressing my own preconceptions of what is art. A series of small-scale sculptures made from my children's discarded pencils help to capture a moment in time, which would of otherwise been lost to memory . Reclaimed materials are wrapped and bound lovingly, ensuring that as a mother I am able to keep these memories safe. These sculptures are central to my present work, influencing paintings, photographs, drawings and prints.
