My practice is a visual response to a “wobbly” journey I took around the wild landscape of Iceland. My paintings allude to the country’s aberrational atmosphere, sensational space and the people’s gentle attitude towards the unforgiving landscape around them.
I am interested in how my real experiences of this landscape are translated, with the use of imagination, into their own painted descriptions. Through the versatility of paint, I transform the reality of the experiential world into a new reality on canvas, to be experienced again by the viewer.
As a visual narrator, I use the space of the canvas to stage, build and animate my Icelandic stories. I present the experiences of this landscape as I see them in my mind and paint the journey like a dream to be enjoyed.
